US Culture Training Finishing School

Created to prepare offshore professionals for expat assignments to the US, this training program helps professionals set their expectations for working and living in the US.

Audience Profile



Who attends this training? Professionals with at least five years of experience on global teams preparing to go onsite to locations across the US within the next twelve months. Over 1000 professionals in India—from companies such as Allianz, Arbitron, EY, Microsoft, and UST Global —have attended versions of this training.

Duration

  • Express Session: 8.5 hours or 1 working day
  • Express Plus Session: 16 hours or 2 working days
  • Home Run Session: 24 hours or 3 working days

* Session times based on classroom face-to-face delivery methods. Session and module length varies based on intensity of modules, number of activities, debriefs and number of participants.

Number of Participants

For ideal outcomes 20-25 participants in a session is recommended.
For groups over 25, several options are available, including:

  • Breaking up the group into smaller groups
  • Extra per person payment (for groups over 25, note activities are abbreviated in many cases due to lack of time)

Mode of Delivery

  • Classroom: Face-to-face, instructor led
  • Online: For groups smaller than 10, classes can be delivered via online methods (Skype, Google Hangouts, WebEx, your company virtual platform).
  • Blended: Training delivered in a classroom is mixed with online follow up via the Authentic Journeys Aspire Online classroom materials, quizzes, and supplementary materials.
  • Individual Corporate Coaching: Select individuals or groups smaller than 5 can meet live with Jennifer Kumar via phone or VOIP methods over a period of days or weeks.

Syllabus customizations: Modules can be added, removed or enhanced.
Custom modules include:

  • US states and diversity
  • Accent Modules
  • Diversity & Inclusion Challenges
  • Custom Individual Coaching Sessions for select individuals
  • Others upon request

Role plays: Role plays offer practice in mannerisms and context building.
Role plays include:
  • Going out to lunch with colleagues
  • Meal time meetings (with real food to practice)
  • Table mannerisms (eating, using cutlery, real time practice eating and meeting) Conference call or video conference meetings (mock scenarios with real-life feedback on meeting flow, topic handling, presentation skills, and voice and accent)

American English language and culture: For teams or team members requiring English enhancement, modules with individual and group communication assessments are available.

Visa Coaching: For those who do not yet have their visa, and need to prepare for H1B, L1 or other work permits and visas to the US, a one or two hour hour crash course is available by Skype.

Preparing to Travel to the US: What to expect on an international flight, jet lag, immigration, navigating the first days in the US (this is tailored as per assignment)

Videos or audios: Can be made of the training for sharing within the team.

Online classroom: Available to share classroom materials after the training is over.

Certificates: Available upon request.
